Ganesh Chaturthi , 2019 ( Analysis ) :

Actually this festival was on 2 Sep,2019 and I am writing this post on the last day of Ganeshi Ji festival which is commonly called the Ganesh Visarjan in local language and is the day when Lord Ganesha went to home with Mother Gori . 

Starting with Ganesh Chaturthi , (the festival of Lord Ganesha) , we also call it 'Vinayak Chaturthi' or 'Vinayak Chavithi'  is the Hindu festival celebratig the arrival of Lord Ganesha to the Earth with his Mother Goddess Parvati/Gauri . 

It is a ten-days Hindu festival celebrated to honour the Elephant headed Lord Ganesha's Birthday .He is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati .
Ganesha is known by 108 different names and a Lord of Art and Science and deva of wisdom.He is honoured at the start of rituals and ceremonies and he is considered the lord of beginning.
He is widely referred to as Ganpati or Vinayak.

Special Things about Lord Ganesha - 

There are two different versions about Ganesha's Birth . One has it that Goddess Parvati created Ganesha out of dirt off her body while having a bath and set him to guard her floor while she finishes her bath . Shiva who has gone out , returned at that time , and as Ganesha didn't know about him , stopped him from entering. An angry Shiva severed the head of Ganesha after the combat between the two. Parvati was enraged and Shiva promised Ganesha will live again.The devas who went in search of a head facing north of a dead person could manage only the head of an elephant.Shiva fixed the Elephant's head on the child and brought him back to life.

The other legend has it that Ganesha was created by Shiva and Parvati on request of Devas  , to be a Vighnakartaa (Obstacle-creator) in the path of Rakshasas (demonic beings) and a Vighnahartaa (Obstacle-averter) to help the Devas .

• The festival begins on Shukla Chaturthi which is the fourth day of the waxing moon period , and ends on the fourth day of waxing moon period known as Anant Chaturdashi.
• Maharashtra is the state known for grand scale Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations.
• During the festival , colourful pandals (temporary shrines ) are setup and the Lord Ganesha is worshipped for ten-days
• There are 4 main rituals during the festival - 

            PRANAPRATISHHTHA -  the process of infusing the deity into a murti or idol

         SHHODASHOPACHARA - 16 forms of paying tribute ot Ganesha 

           UTTARPUJA -                      Puja after which the idol could be shifted after its infusion

           GANPATI VISARJAN -        immersion of the idol in the river.

• Foddies wait for Modak , a sweet dish prepared using rice or flour stuffed with grated Jaggery , Coconuts and Dry Fruits . The plate containing the Modak  is supposed to be filled with 21-peices of the sweet . 

History of Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations - 

• The festival was celebrated as a public event since the time of Maratha King,Shivaji, but a Sarvajanik (Public) Ganesh idol was first installed by Bhausaheb Laxman Javale . 
• Lokmanya Tilak changed the festival from a private celebration to a Grand Public Event to bridge the gap between Brahmins and Non-Brahmins and find an appropraite context in which to build a new grassroot unity between them.

Lord Ganesha is also worshiped in Thailand , Cambodia , Indonesia , Afghanistan , Nepal and China,Canada , Mauritius ,Singapore,Burma , US , UK , Fiji and many of mentioned country's government have declared a public holiday for that day.

Relevence of Ganesha in Hindu Spiritual Culture and Mythology -

• It's Significance lies in worshiping a deity with a head of the elephant .
• The elephant head symbolizes immense wisdom which is brought about by "manana" or Independent thinking or reflection . In turn "manana" is brought by the process of "shravana" or intake of spiritual knowledge which is depicted with the deities huge ears. 
• The well developed trunk depicts wisdom and symbolizes intellect of a perfectionist.
• Lord Ganesha is believed to ride on a mouse which signifies trouncing the ego
•  The food served at the Lord's feet symbolizes material wealth and power.
•  The things in the hand of Ganesha , such as Rope signify spiritual knowledge , Axe symbolizes annihilation of desire , Modak is for happiness and the Lotus stand for divine state of self-realization.
